Winter 2019: Shakespeare

curriculum

What makes a play a classic? It has stood the test of time; its language, structure, world and ideas transcend period, fashion and fad. No play demands more from an actor than classical text: the imaginative requirements, the technical skills and the critical abilities of the actor are tested and challenged. To be able to master difficult classical text is to be able to master all dramatic texts.

The Winter 2019 Studio Classics course will focus on Shakespeare over 12 sessions of three hour classes over 6 weeks. During this class we will focus on one play, HAMLET by William Shakespeare. Close text analysis, scene study and imaginative, critically informed acting choices are at the core of this training. The goal is a transformation of your ability to command language, time and space with heightened text and to increase your confidence and skills.

Classes are restricted to 10-12 students per workshop.

Actors will be assigned scene partners and monologue work for the duration of of the workshop.

Entry by pre-approval.
